According to Sport Bild, Xabi Alonso has a ‘secret’ agreement with Bayer Leverkusen meaning he can leave the club when he wants despite his recent contract extension.
Only last week did Alonso sign a contract extension at Leverkusen until 2026 but it is reported that there is an agreement between the two parties meaning if a club is interested in Alonso and presents a suitable offer then the Spaniard can leave the club.
Alonso only joined Leverkusen at the beginning of last season but during his time at the club, he has been able to turn them from a team that was in the relegation zone into a team that finished the season with a Europa League place as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League.
With a full pre-season behind him and a host of summer signings, Leverkusen will be going into this season with the hope that they can challenge Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund but they face a tough start to the season on Saturday as they play at home to RB Leipzig.
