According to Sky Germany, Jonathan Tah is attracting interest from the Premier League with West Ham United enquiring about the German defender.
It is reported that Tah has an €18m release clause within his contract, which is considerably low for the level of performance he has been producing this season. Therefore, the interest in the centre-back is high, and Premier League clubs are monitoring the German’s situation.
Tah has experienced an inconsistent career with Die Werkself after his move from Hamburg in 2015. The then 19-year-old was expected to become a future star in the Bundesliga but has never been able to find his potential.
However, now at the age of 27, Tah has been a reliable rock at the back of Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen defence. The 16-time Germany international has recently been voted into the Europa League Team of the Season for his efforts in guiding Die Werkself to the semi-finals.
In 305 appearances for Leverkusen, Tah has managed to score eight goals from the heart of Leverkusen’s backline. However, it is for his defensive duties that Tah is dutifully wanted, as with 2.5 clearances per game while producing 1.7 interceptions too, the ability to read danger has been the stand-out part of his game.
It is for this reason that Alonso ‘definitely’ wants to keep hold of his starting centre-back. With Europa League football returning to Leverkusen next season, Tah may even be reluctant to leave the Bay Arena.
