It wasn’t pretty, but RB Leipzig got what they wanted in Darmstadt, beating Die Lilien 3-1.
Analyzing the game in a post-match interview, Emil Forsberg admitted that Leipzig had to dig deep to get the three points.
“It was definitely a hard-earned victory. I don’t think we played well in a lot of aspects of our game today. We can definitely work on our build-up play, for instance. Obviously, Darmstadt played well, but we didn’t find enough solutions. It was important to pick up the three points,” Forsberg said, as quoted by the club.
“At the end of the game, we should have used the space better, But like I said, Darmstadt defended well and closed down the spaces. They put us under pressure a lot, which made it difficult for us to play our normal passing game. We got our hands dirty and we’re happy to be taking all three points back to Leipzig.”
The Sweden international scored his first goal of the season from a direct free kick in the win.
