Tottenham Hotspur among clubs linked as Ruslan Malinovskyi could become available in January

Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi could be set for a move in the January transfer window, reports local newspaper Corriere Bergamo (via Sport Witness).

Malinovskyi joined Atalanta in 2019, signing from Genk for a fee of around €13.7 million. Since then, he has been a key player for the Italian side, scoring 30 goals in 127 games in all competitions – including one in the 2021 Coppa Italia final defeat against Juventus.

Furthermore, the midfielder is a regular on the international stage, earning 51 caps for Ukraine since 2015. He featured in four of their five matches at Euro 2020, recording one assist.

However, he has had an inconsistent start to the new campaign. He has participated in all nine of La Dea’s fixtures this term, but started only four.

As a result, Malinovskyi could pursue a move elsewhere in order to get more game time. According to Corriere Bergamo, and relayed by Sport Witness, he could be allowed to leave in January.

This will attract the attention of a number of Premier League clubs. Nottingham Forest and West Ham United were known admirers last summer, while Tottenham Hotspur have also been named as possible suitors.

Spurs have made a strong start to the year, picking up 20 points from their opening nine league outings. This has left them in third place, just four points off the top of the table. However, despite the results, many feel that their performances could reach another level.

This is where Malinovskyi could make a difference. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Yves Bissouma are all good players in their own right, but the Ukrainian would add a bit more of a creative spark to their midfield.

Meanwhile, West Ham and Nottingham Forest have had far from ideal starts to the season. The Hammers struggled early on, but have somewhat bounced back with back-to-back home victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham.

The Reds remain in the relegation zone, having won just one from nine. They are the division’s second-lowest goalscorers, while only Leicester City have conceded more.
