Paris Saint-Germain reportedly have submitted an official application to acquire the Stade de France after being prevented by the Paris city council from purchasing the Parc des Princes, according to RMC Sport. The deadline for interested parties to submit preliminary bids to acquire or operate the stadium was set by Bercy’s Fin-Infra at 12 pm on April 27th. According to L’Equipe, PSG confirmed that it will apply, although it has yet to provide an estimate of the acquisition cost.
The French government will evaluate all of the applications and select the most legitimate candidates for a final round of bidding, which is expected to begin in June, with decisions expected in October or November. Interested parties will be required to submit detailed financial information to the government during the second phase, which is more intensive than the preliminary stage.
If the government chooses to sell the stadium, the Stade de France dossier will be submitted to Parliament for approval, which could be a lengthy and uncertain process. The PSG has not yet decided whether to continue with the second phase of the bidding process, as they want to take their time to reflect on the project’s feasibility and cost.
Although the PSG is exploring the possibility of acquiring the Stade de France, its primary objective remains the acquisition of the Parc des Princes. PSG has launched a survey among its supporters to explore the possibility of staying at the Porte de Saint-Cloud location, but only if they can acquire ownership of the stadium. The PSG considers ownership of the stadium to be a prerequisite for initiating large-scale expansion work, which would increase their revenue and keep them competitive in European football.
Despite discussions with the Paris city council, the sale of the Parc des Princes has yet to be finalized. As a result, PSG is exploring other options and is showing interest in the Stade de France as a backup plan if the Parc des Princes deal falls through.
