According to L’Équipe, current Red Star assistant manager Pierre Sage is to return to Olympique Lyonnais (OL) as director of the club’s youth acadamy. Having previously held the position of general manager at Bourg-Péronnas, Sage left OL’s U16 team in December 2021 to join Red Star as assistant to Habib Beye.
Current Lyon academy director Jean-François Vuillez was initially due to join Laurent Blanc’s coaching team as assistant to the professional team. However, this decision has been reconsidered, and in order to complete his training for the BEPF coaching licence, Vuillez will be in charge of a youth team.
Sage was a key member of the coaching team behind Habib Beye at Red Star. Since taking over in 2021 with Les Audoniens threatened with relegation to National 2, the team has progressed in an attractive style of play while improving results and consistency.
Red Star finished third in the Championnat National this season, missing out on promotion to Ligue 2 by just two points. With Sage’s departure almost confirmed, it likely means that manager Habib Beye will also be leaving the club. Beye has been linked with several managerial jobs in Ligue 2, including Sochaux and Amiens.
