One of the performers who suffers from dwarfism and was hired to work at Lamine Yamal’s 18th birthday party has spoken out about how he was treated amid backlash aimed at the teenage star. Yamal’s birthday celebrations became a major topic in the footballing world, shrouded in secrecy and later controversy after some of the details surrounding it emerged.
In particular, Yamal was criticised for hiring performers with dwarfism, with the Association of People with Achondroplasia and Other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain (ADEE) condemning the Barcelona player and threatening legal action against him. However, one of the actors hired by Yamal’s entourage has shared their version of events, leaping to the defence of the Spanish international.

Performer Defends Yamal After Dwarfism Row
After footage emerged of the performers with dwarfism at Yamal’s party the ADEE release a statement, claiming that: “It’s unacceptable that, in the 21st century, people with dwarfism continue to be used as entertainment at private parties, and even more serious when these incidents involve public figures like Lamine Yamal. The dignity and rights of our community are not entertainment for anyone, under any circumstances.”
Legal action was also threatened against Yamal for violating “current legislation but also the fundamental ethical values of a society that seeks to be egalitarian and respectful.”
Yet despite that, one of the artists, who wished to remain anonymous, told Catalan outlet RAC1, via The Athletic, that he was treated with respect at the party while slamming the ADEE for trying to prohbit entertainers with dwarfism from finding work.
“We are only asking they let us work. We have our own contracts, we are normal people, self-employed and do everything legally. I don’t know why there’s so much noise right now. What the association is doing right now is discrediting our work as professionals. We do this job because we want to. Nobody is forcing us to. We like to be artists, we have been dedicating to this for a long time, and over the last two or three years we’ve experienced more noise or questions around our job.
“Nobody from the association have reached us, and with all this criticism what they are doing is screwing with our jobs. They don’t offer solutions either. We always agree with our clients that if we see one single sign of disrespect towards our activity, the show ends. I’ve never experienced a lack of respect of that type while working so far.
“There were four of us in the party. In the show that we offer, we go the place and dance with the people, we deliver shots and drinks around the place, we do magic tricks … We entertain and try to make people have a fun time.
“I disagree with the association [that wants to sue Lamine Yamal], they seek to humiliate people with dwarfism. For a couple of years these people have been harming us, they want to ban a job that we enjoy.”
