Newcastle United are pursuing a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike (23), according to The Athletic.
The Athletic reports that talks between the clubs are ongoing, with Newcastle working on a €75 million deal for the Frenchman. The club previously tried to sign Ekitike in January 2022, but the move broke down, with the player preferring to remain at Stade de Reims.
Ekitike began his career at Reims. After returning from a loan at Danish club Vejle Boldklub, he broke out during the 2021–22 campaign, scoring 11 goals in 26 games. Following the failed January move to Newcastle, he joined Paris Saint-Germain in July 2022 on a loan with an option to buy.
After a disappointing season in Paris, Ekitike joined Eintracht Frankfurt in February 2024 and made a permanent move that summer. He enjoyed a fantastic 2024–25 campaign in the Bundesliga and UEFA Europa League, finishing with 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 matches.
The Athletic reports that Manchester United and Chelsea have both previously shown interest in the French U21 striker.
