Four days on from the end of the season, Coupe de France winners Toulouse have wasted no time in finalising their first recruit of the summer transfer window, with Spanish midfielder César Gelabert signing on a permanent deal – of which the length has not been indicated by the club.
The 22-year-old arrives on a free transfer from second tier side Mirandés, where he had been playing for the last two seasons after initially coming through the Real Madrid youth academy and turning out for Los Blancos’ reserve team. The then-promising attacking midfielder had notably seen his progression stunted by a serious knee injury, which he has since overcome while playing in Miranda de Ebro.
Gelabert is expected to be the first of a spate of summer signing for Toulouse as they prepare for next season’s Europa League campaign, provided a potential conflict with UEFA due to their shared ownership with Milan is sorted out. At the end of this past campaign, the club notably saw the departures of their entire starting midfield – Brecht Dejaegere, Stijn Spierings and Branco van den Boomen.
