Manchester United and Liverpool have joined the race for Bayer Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, according to Kicker.
Die Rekordmeister’s final Bundesliga game at Koln this weekend could be the 27-year-old’s last game in Germany. He has interest from the Premier League.
After Bayern’s 1-3 loss to RB Leipzig, the Pavard went to the Bayern fans clapping and looking emotional.
Many felt it was a goodbye, but he has not decided anything regarding his future. He will only start thinking of his future after the season.
Pavard’s contract ends in 2024. This window is the last opportunity for Bayern to sell him. They want to keep him, but they recognise this is the only window to get a significant fee for him.
Top clubs are circling and want to take the French international this summer.
Manchester United will need a new centre-back this summer if Harry Maguire leaves. Maguire will likely depart the club this summer after four years at Old Trafford.
Also, Liverpool could be in for Pavard if they let go of any of their defenders this summer. They need to refresh their defensive line and have the former Stuttgart defender on their radar.
The fact that he can play as a right-back is another added advantage for any club that signs him. He can deputise out wide in case of injuries.
In addition to the two Premier League duo, Real Madrid also have their eyes on the World Cup-winning defender.
Furthermore, Champions League finalists Inter Milan are another interested suitor. Pavard has several diverse options to choose from heading into the summer transfer window.
Despite the offers to leave, Pavard could still stay with the Bavarians. He has an excellent relationship with Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel.
The defender was arguably Bayern’s most consistent player in a disappointing campaign. He has kept his level high despite many others dropping off over the past months.
Pavard will have several exciting options, but there are no current favourites in the race for his signature.
