Mainz boss comments on Svensson rumors

Christian Heidel is not worried about Bo Svensson attracting interest from other clubs.

Mainz 05 sporting director Christian Heidel not worried about speculation linking head coach Bo Svensson with a move away from MEWA Arena.
Svensson was recently touted as a possible candidate to replace Graham Potter at Brighton & Hove Albion, who ended up appointing Roberto De Zerbi instead.

Heidel is aware that Brighton are probably not the last club to be linked with Svensson, but that’s not a problem for him.

“Of course Bo is interesting for other clubs and such rumors will pop up again and again. But firstly, nothing has happened at all, except that a publication from England reports that he is supposedly on Brighton’s list of candidates. Secondly, Bo knows what he has in us,” Heidel told Bild.

“Maybe he won’t stay here forever, just like Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel didn’t stay forever. But they left after seven and five professional coaching years at Mainz 05, respectively. Because they appreciated that they had the chance to develop as young coaches at Mainz. That was the basis for the many titles they’ve gone on to win. You don’t get a better foundation for that at any other club that Mainz 05.”

Bo Svensson’s contract with Mainz expires in 2024.
