Manchester United face Athletic Club in the Europa League on Thursday night, and the La Liga club have released their squad for the game. Sky Sports News have reported that both Nico Williams and Inaki Williams have been ruled out, while Oihan Sancet also hasn’t travelled.
United face Athletic in their second-leg tie of the semi-final, with the La Liga outfit travelling to England to try and overcome a 3-0 deficit. The Red Devils are strong favourites to advance, and Ernesto Valverde’s side will need to be at their best to reach the final.
Ruben Amorim’s side gave themselves a huge advantage by winning 3-0 away from home, allowing them to play the second leg at Old Trafford with a bit more freedom.
Williams Brothers Ruled Out of Man Utd Clash
Sancet is also unavailable
Reporting live, Sky Sports News have confirmed that both the Williams brothers will be unavailable for their game against United, while top goalscorer Sancet is also out.
“A bit of breaking news ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League semi-final second-leg against Athletic Club tomorrow, and it’s good news isn’t it for Manchester United? They have named their squad to travel to Manchester, and neither Nico Williams or brother Inaki have been named among the 24 players. This is unfortunately due to injury.”
They also confirm that Athletic Club are also without top goalscorer Sancet in what is a crucial blow for the La Liga club. It was already going to be an incredibly difficult task for Athletic Club to overturn their 3-0 deficit, but being without three of their key players has made it even more tricky.
It’s a huge boost for United who won’t want to get complacent despite their advantage. The Williams brothers have been crucial for Athletic Club in recent years, and Sancet is enjoying an impressive season in front of goal. The Red Devils will have their own injury worries to contend with as Matthijs de Ligt limped off against Brentford in their previous Premier League game. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit and available for the second leg on Thursday night at Old Trafford.
