After Eintracht Frankfurt’s impressive 2-0 over Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin, sporting director Markus Krösche praised ‘keeper Kevin Trapp (32), calling the Europa League winner the best in German football, ahead of Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer.
“Kevin has been in excellent form for weeks and months and for me is currently the best German goalkeeper,” Krösche told Sky Germany.
Neuer withdrew from Hansi Flick’s latest Germany squad after testing positive for Covid-19. The Bayern Munich stopper is likely to remain Flick’s No. 1 for the 2022 World Cup. Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen started in place of Neuer whilst Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann was called up as a replacement.
Trapp also made Flick’s squad, whilst Bernd Leno missed out. With three places up for grabs for the World Cup and with Neuer and ter Stegen already on the plane, the third spot will be between Trapp, Leno and Baumann.
In eight Bundesliga games this season, Trapp has kept two clean sheets.
