According to Foot Mercato, Juninho is taking his time over making a decision on a potential return to Lyon. John Textor has offered the former Brazilian international midfielder a role as a footballing advisor which would see him return to a sporting role at the Groupama Stadium.
L’Équipe reported that Lyon had offered him the opportunity to return to the club where he spent 8 years of his playing career. The Brazilian was appointed as Lyon’s sporting director in 2019 and his first decision was to appoint former international teammate Sylvinho as the club’s head coach. After a mixed spell at Lyon, Juninho’s time as sporting director came to an end in 2021.
With OL now in a perilous position sitting at the bottom of Ligue 1 and with one win from their opening 11 matches, the possibility of a potential return is no clearer. Textor doesn’t just want the former sporting director to advise on the sporting direction at Lyon but at clubs across Eagle Football Group. The American businessman is keen to incorporate Juninho in decision-making at Brazilian club Botafogo.
