Per Sky Germany, a move for Leverkusen’s Joel Pohjanpalo is still a possibility. But, Fürth’s Branimir Hrgota is gaining traction to become the replacement for star forward Anthony Modeste.

With Anthony Modeste’s move to Dortmund, Köln badly need a new no. 9. The Billy Goats reportedly haven’t talked with Leverkusen’s Joel Pohjanpalo for a potential move, as Sky Germany now report that Fürth captain Branimir Hrgota is the favorite. Manager Steffen Baumgart recently said he is keeping the decision to himself before naming a Modeste replacement.
However, talks with Fürth won’t be easy. The 2. Bundesliga side would like to keep their striker in hopes of an immediate promotion back to the top flight. Hrgota had 9 goals and 6 assists in the Bundesliga last season and the 29-year-old is off to a rapid start with 2 goals and 2 assists in the new campaign.
27-year-old Leverkusen man Joel Pohjanpalo is struggling to find his place in the current squad. While it’s nearly certain he will find a new home this season, a move to Köln is starting to look less promising.
