Frankfurt confirm Daichi Kamada’s impending departure

Eintracht Frankfurt have announced that they will part ways with Japanese midfielder Daichi Kamada at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old’s contract runs out this summer, and both parties have failed to negotiate a deal to extend his stay at the Deutsche Bank Park.

Kamada has been open about his desire to explore other opportunities and is now set to end his six-year association with Frankfurt.

Having notched 170 appearances with Die Adler, racking up 37 goals and 31 assists, Kamada will leave Frankfurt a Europa League and German Super Cup winner.

However, Kamada is not short on potential suitors, with several European heavyweights, including La Liga duo Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, looking to secure his services.

The Japan international seemed close to joining Borussia Dortmund following talks with Der BVB sporting director Sebastien Kehl.

But talks have since broken down between both parties, leaving the midfielder’s future up in the air.

According to Calciomercato, AC Milan have now joined the race for the free agent, with technical director Paolo Maldini weighing up a summer move.

The Rossoneri are looking to reinforce their squad ahead of next season, having endured an appalling Serie A title defence.

But their precarious financial situation means they are running on a tight budget, so Kamada’s acquisition on a free transfer could prove a master stroke.

However, having to contend with Atletico and Barca for his signature means they could struggle to lure the sought-after midfielder to the Italian top flight.

Kamada has been a key part of Oliver Glasner’s Europe-chasing Frankfurt side this season, racking up 13 goals and five assists from 38 outings in all competitions.

He is poised to be one of many that could exit the Deutsche Bank Park this summer, with defender Evan Ndicka also expected to leave when his contract runs out at the end of the season.

Frankfurt are braced for a summer raid with manager Glasner and star striker Randal Kolo Muani, also subject to interest from Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.
