Eric Roy signs contract to remain as Brest manager until 2025

After guiding Stade Brestois to a promising 14th position, manager Eric Roy has extended his contract by two years, tying him to the club until 2025, the club has announced.

Outside of his playing years, which took Roy to Olympique Lyonnais, OGC Nice, Olympique de Marseille and Sunderland, the Brest manager had many adventures as a sporting director.

He started at Nice, where he had been promoted from the academy as a player two decades prior. During his spell on the Riviera, he also occupied the position of manager, from 2010 to 2012, before being fired at the end of the 2011/12 season.

Before getting into another sporting director role, this time at RC Lens, Roy was mainly a consultant on BeIn Sport in France, often appearing on evening shows and pre-game for Ligue 1.

Eventually, after two years at Lens (2017-2019) and a few months at Watford (2019-2020), Roy took a break and focused on coming back as a head coach – an opportunity given to him by Brest in January 2023, following the departure of Michel Der Zakarian.

After 11 years without coaching a team, Roy completed the club’s objectives, steering Brest clear of the four-team relegation zone. Notably, he secured crucial results against relegation rivals Strasbourg, Nantes and Clermont.
