Manchester United are closing in on the signing of AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi, according to L’Equipe.
The 25-year-old defender has accepted an offer from United and will wait for the two clubs to agree a transfer fee.
Disasi has been a long-term target for the Red Devils and they appear to have finally got their man.
United are preparing for the departure of captain Harry Maguire. Manager Erik ten Hag is unopposed to seeing him leave.
With the 2024 European Championship on the horizon, he wants game time to make the England squad for the tournament.
United must sign a replacement for Maguire when he departs, and they have opted for Disasi.
The French international played all 38 Ligue 1 games last season. He helped Monaco keep nine clean sheets, although it was a disappointing campaign for the club.
Disasi contributed three goals and three assists in those 38 games as they missed out on European football following a late-season collapse.
He won 70% of his aerial duels and ranked in the 96th percentile for progressive passers amongst defenders in the top five European leagues (5.8 per game).
Disasi is also in the 96th percentile for progressive carries (1.70 per game). He is a very forward-thinking defender with leadership qualities to boot.
United will start trying to agree a deal with Monaco for the defender. Les Monegasques are hoping for between €40-50 million.
Monaco knew they had to sell the player this summer, especially after their sixth-place finish. They are also ready to let Youssouf Fofana leave to balance their books.
