Liverpool are in advanced negotiations with teenage midfielder Trey Nyoni over a new contract following his impressive development under head coach Andoni Iraola.
The 19-year-old has been discussing fresh terms with the Merseyside club for several months, with growing optimism that an agreement could be reached soon.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are keen to reward Nyoni’s progress despite the England Under-21 international having more than three-and-a-half years remaining on his existing deal.
The midfielder signed an improved multi-year contract in June 2025, shortly after his 18th birthday, but his increasing importance to the first team has prompted further discussions.
Liverpool demonstrated their commitment to Nyoni during the summer transfer window when they rejected a £30 million offer from Nottingham Forest.
Iraola reportedly made it clear that the youngster would feature prominently in his plans, persuading the club to retain him despite the substantial proposal.
Nyoni has since made 11 appearances across all competitions this season, gradually establishing himself as a reliable option in midfield.
He made his first Premier League start against Arsenal on Sunday, impressing in a deeper position despite Liverpool suffering a 1-0 defeat at Anfield.
His composure in possession and defensive discipline have earned the confidence of Iraola, who has offered him greater opportunities than predecessor Arne Slot.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Fenerbahce, the Liverpool head coach praised Nyoni’s progress.
“We trust him, he’s doing very well. We have to encourage him to continue learning, improving and getting experience. But he’s in a very good place,” Iraola said.
Nyoni could receive another opportunity against Fenerbahce, with Ryan Gravenberch unavailable through injury and Dominik Szoboszlai still working towards full match fitness.
Liverpool signed the midfielder from Leicester City in 2023 for an initial fee understood to be just under £1 million.
His development has accelerated this season, particularly following Curtis Jones’s summer departure, which created additional opportunities in central midfield.
Liverpool opted against recruiting a direct replacement for Jones, reflecting their belief that Nyoni was ready to assume greater responsibility.
The club have already secured new contracts for Szoboszlai and Gravenberch this year, while discussions with fellow youngster Rio Ngumoha are continuing.
Extending Nyoni’s deal would therefore represent another step in Liverpool’s efforts to retain their most promising players.
Although negotiations have yet to produce a final agreement, both parties are reportedly optimistic about reaching a positive conclusion.
Liverpool will hope to finalise the extension as Nyoni continues his emergence as an important member of Iraola’s squad.
