According to Kicker, Eintracht Frankfurt have reached a verbal agreement with St. Étienne’s Niels Nkounkou.
The left-wing back is keen for a move away from the Ligue 2 club and has been quite open about that. The 22-year-old was previously loaned out to the French side from Everton before the move became permanent for €2m.
Upon hearing that the move had been made official, Nkounkou admits: “I was surprised and not really pleased.”
When Frankfurt came calling, Nkounkou was immediately interested and keen for a move to the Bundesliga. However, St. Étienne have already rejected an initial offer of €6m for the Frenchman. Clearly, there are still discussions to be had between the two clubs.
With the player so keen on the move, you feel St. Étienne are just waiting for a slightly higher offer before accepting. Currently tied until 2026, the ball is in the Ligue 2 side’s court. However, don’t expect Nkounkou to remain at the club.
As the player puts it: “And if I have to tell them every day that I want to go, I will do that. I won’t get tired. Keeping a player against his will is not the right solution in my opinion.”
