Arsenal target Youri Tielemans has shown why top clubs ‘should be looking’ to sign him in recent weeks, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from Leicester City throughout the summer after entering the final year of his £120,000-per-week contract but ultimately ended up staying put.

What is the latest news involving Tielemans?

Back in June, GOAL reported that Arsenal had cooled their pursuit of Tielemans as they focussed their attention on bringing in other targets such as Gabriel Jesus.

However, Football.London then stated that the Gunners are prepared to wait until the Belgium international becomes a free agent next summer as the Foxes were demanding £32 million for his services.

A formal offer for Tielemans failed to materialise from Arsenal or any other of his potential suitors, meaning he was forced to start the season with Leicester.

Yet the technically gifted star has not put pen to paper on fresh terms at the King Power Stadium, opening the door to a potentially imminent exit either in January or next summer.

What has Jones said about Tielemans?

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that he has a ‘massive admiration’ for the way Tielemans has played of late, further highlighting why sides such as Arsenal should have him on their wish list.

He said: “I’ve got a massive admiration for Tielemans, the way that he’s raised his game in difficult moments for Leicester and has come full circle really.

“Over the summer, it didn’t look like he’d be staying, he had to wait it out. Leicester got off to a terrible start, he wasn’t necessarily in form and was struggling to bring the team around.

“Him and James Maddison have totally turned things around, and I think it really shows even more why a club like Arsenal should be looking to sign Tielemans.”

How well has Tielemans played this season?

Leicester failed to win any of their opening seven Premier League games of the season, and nobody barring James Maddison came out of that poor run of form with any credibility.

Nevertheless, Tielemans has been pivotal in the Midlands outfit transforming their fortunes, registering three goals and one assist in his 14 top-flight fixtures.

As per WhoScored, the 5 foot 9 ace has averaged 2.1 tackles, 2.6 long balls and 1.3 key passes per league game so far in 2022/23, placing him in the top three for each metric when compared to his teammates.

Tielemans’ eye-catching displays may well have captured the attention of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, although the capital club are unlikely to be the only interested party.
