Chelsea could offer £350k-a-week star as ‘sweetener’ to sign Felix permanently – GiveMeSport

Chelsea could look to use Romelu Lukaku in a potential swap deal to coax Atlético Madrid into selling João Félix permanently to the Stamford Bridge outfit this summer, transfer insider Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport.

Graham Potter’s side are expected to immediately complete the loan signing of the Portuguese forward, who will extend his contract at the La Liga giants until 2027 before leaving for the Blues.

Chelsea transfer news – João Félix

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Atlético for a fee in the region of £9.68m for the loan service of Félix for the remainder of the season, with both Arsenal and Manchester United also interested in a deal for the 23-year-old this month.

The west London side will also cover the former £113m signing’s wages during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Jones has recently hinted to GiveMeSport that Arsenal could be frustrated that Chelsea have acquired the services of Félix – who has been described as a “pure talent” by Jacek Kulig – with the forward arguably being a better option than Gunners target Mykhaylo Mudryk of Shakhtar Donetsk.

And the journalist believes that it’s not a “major surprise” that the Blues have secured the addition of Félix and could offer some expensive assets like Lukaku in a bid to sign him permanently in the summer.

What has Jones said about Félix and Chelsea?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “Chelsea need a spark so it’s no major surprise they have bitten on this opportunity. There’s no obligation or first option here I believe, but the club do have assets, such as Lukaku for example, that they would be able to offer in the summer as a sweetener to get the deal done permanently if João Félix does well in this period and enjoys it.”

Who could Chelsea offer in a bid to permanently sign Félix?

In terms of players Chelsea could offer in a deal to sign Félix from Atlético permanently, Romelu Lukaku is the one who stands out above the rest.

The Premier League outfit re-signed the Belgian striker from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021 for a club-record fee of £97.5m but the former Manchester United man couldn’t get into his stride in west London and was loaned back to the Serie A outfit at the beginning of this season.

Todd Boehly may feel that he could save himself a lot of money by swapping Lukaku – who reportedly earns £350k-per-week at Stamford Bridge – in any deal for Félix this summer, rather than sell the 29-year-old for a cut-price fee.

Therefore, Chelsea may feel that they have another advantage when it comes to a potential battle to secure the permanent signing of Félix ahead of the summer transfer window.
