Carlos Soler wants to stay at PSG, despite difficult first season

According to L’Équipe, Carlos Soler (26) wants to remain at Paris Saint-Germain next season, despite a difficult first campaign at the Parc des Princes.

Soler joined PSG on deadline day, arriving for €18m from La Liga side Valencia. He wasn’t the only midfielder to join Les Parisiens last summer. Fabián Ruiz, Renato Sanches and Vitinha also reinforced the midfield, meaning that game time was difficult to come by.

However, Neymar’s injury, which sees him sidelined until the end of the season, has afforded the Spaniard more game time. Whilst, statistically (30 appearances, six goals, four assists), Soler has struggled, he has brought a balance to Christophe Galtier’s system, acting as a third attacker alongside the undroppable Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi. Whilst understated on the pitch, he has become “precious” to Galtier, and the functioning of his system.

Whilst more is still expected of the player, there is a feeling that, in his new hybrid role, Soler is on the right path. The Spanish international is under contract at the Parc des Princes until 2027, and despite a difficult first campaign in the French top flight, Soler wants to remain at the club next season as he is happy in Paris.
