Barcelona have been linked with young Mexican midfielder Gilberto Mora, who has been one of the standout stars at the FIFA U20 World Cup.
Mora has tallied five goal involvements in the competition – only top-scorer Benjamin Cremaschi has registered more.
He has been likened to Barcelona star Pedri due to his composure and intelligence on the ball.
Mexico U20 coach Javier Aguirre recently compared him to Mexican great Cuauhtemoc Blanco, underlining his massive potential.
The 16-year-old has already debuted for the Mexico senior team and featured in their Gold Cup triumph, breaking Lamine Yamal’s record as the youngest player to win a major senior international tournament.
Mora has also established himself as a mainstay for Club Tijuana’s first team and holds the record as the youngest to assist and score a goal in the Mexican top flight.
Barcelona are reportedly ready to offer €20 million for him, but journalist Fabrizio Romano has denied the claims.
He said via his YouTube channel: “Barcelona are scouting the player, but they have yet to start negotiating or start talks.
“Many clubs from England, France and the Netherlands are all attentive to this player because he is one of the best talents in his position. At the moment, it is still early to say where he is going.”
Barcelona risk missing out on Mora to rivals Real Madrid. One of his former coaches, Ignacio Ruvalcaba, has revealed that he dreams of playing for Los Blancos.
Madrid already have some of the best youngsters in European football, and it will be intriguing to see whether they can add Mora to their list of potential superstars.
