AC Milan reject €60 million from Chelsea for Mike Maignan

AC Milan have rejected a €60 million verbal offer from Chelsea for goalkeeper Mike Maignan, according to La Repubblica.

The Blues are looking for a new number one and have turned their attention to the France international. 

However, Milan consider him untransferrable. If they decide to sell, they will ask for a significantly higher fee.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper arrived from Lille in 2021 and replaced Gianluigi Donnarumma between the sticks.

He had helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title, keeping a league-high 21 clean sheets in 38 games.

Maignan joined Milan and helped them claim their first Scudetto in 11 years. He kept 17 clean sheets in 32 league games. Again, nobody kept more.

He suffered injuries that curtailed his campaign this time around, but he still had eight shut-outs in 22 matches as Milan finished fourth. He also helped them reach the Champions League semi-final.

France manager Didier Deschamps named Maignan as the starting goalkeeper for Les Bleus. 

Following his performances, several clubs are looking to secure his services including Chelsea.

They plan to sell Edouard Mendy this summer after a slump in form that he failed to shake off.

Chelsea would prefer to sell Kepa Arrizabalaga but will find it difficult to find any takers given his enormous salary.

They have Maignan on their radar and could return with a higher offer for him.

Chelsea are also looking at Inter Milan’s Andre Onana as an alternative option.
