FSV Mainz 05 confirmed the permanent departure of French fullback/wingback Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel late yesterday.

Recently returned from a loan-out to Espanyol Barcelona, French fullback Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel has now left his German Bundesliga club permanently. The 25-year-old joined the Rheinhessen on an expensive €5.5 million transfer back in 2019, yet was never able to establish himself in the German top flight. The Parisian was loaned out thrice to Brest, Straßbourg, and his latest La Liga side.
Mainz had long been shopping the former French youth international as a means of recouping some of the money they had invested in him. Germany’s Kicker Magazine reports that the FSV front office effectively gave up on this pursuit and allowed him to leave for his native country on a free transfer. Gabriel made just eight Bundesliga appearances over the past four seasons.
He now moves to FC Nantes on a new three-year-deal.
