Sevilla reach full agreement to sign Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow

Sevilla have reportedly finalised a total agreement for the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow.

The Swiss midfielder was put on the market after he decided not to extend his contract with the German outfit, which runs down in 12 months.

Lazio appeared to be the frontrunners for Sow before the Andalusian outfit overtook them in the transfer race.

German journalist Christopher Michell reports that Los Nervionenses have struck a deal with Frankfurt for around €14 million, and Sow is expected to have his medicals on Wednesday.

Sow will be the second signing of the summer for the La Liga giants following the arrival of Adria Pedrosa on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old has garnered 160 appearances for Frankfurt since joining them in 2019, and his notable achievement was playing a key role in the Europa League triumph in the 2020/21 signing.

Amidst their deep financial crisis, Sevilla have pulled off a great deal in Sow, who is a much-needed addition to bolster the midfield ranks.

With Pape Gueye returning to Marseille after loan and the likes of Ivan Rakitic and Fernando in the twilight of their careers, Sow can take up a central role in the squad and help the reigning Europa League champions compete at the highest level in the forthcoming season.

Luis Mendilibar’s side are braced for a mini clearout this summer as they plan to mitigate their economic condition.

Yassine Bounou has been the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain, while another key figure Youssef En-Nesyri has also been linked with an exit, with West Ham United among the potential suitors.

Fellow Spanish rivals Valencia have also turned their attention towards Rafa Mir after losing Edinson Cavani to Boca Juniors.
