During a routine 3-1 victory over FC Lorient on Sunday, AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement equalled Claude Puel’s win record after 50 Ligue 1 games.
Clement arrived in January 2022 and guided Les Monégasques to a third-place finish last term. This season, the club are just two points off third-placed RC Lens, as they look to secure Champions League qualification for next season. The win against Lorient, whilst crucial in that quest to secure a podium spot, also had statistical resonance for Clement, who equalled Puel’s club record of 30 wins in his first 50 Ligue 1 games as manager of the Principality side. During that time, Monaco have registered 11 draws and nine defeats.
Clement’s points per game (1.85) is higher than that of Puel (1.72), the latter managing Monaco in over 100 fixtures between 1999 and 2001. However, Clement’s figure is below that of his predecessor Niko Kovac (1.95), who took charge of 74 games for Monaco, relative to Clement’s 66 in all competitions.
