3 Reasons Why Tyson Fury Looks Set to End Retirement & Return to Boxing

There are three reasons to believe that Tyson Fury looks set to walk back his retirement comment and return to boxing for a mega-fight — possibly against Anthony Joshua at the end of the year.

Fury claimed to have walked away from the fight game after suffering back-to-back defeats to pound-for-pound No.1 boxer Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, bringing to an end a career in which he built a pro record of 34-2-1 (24 KOs), won the world heavyweight championship twice, and defeated Deontay Wilder in one of the greatest heavyweight trilogies of all time.

Missing from his resume, though, is an all-British battle against his career rival Joshua. And with Joshua still fighting, but one step away from a world title shot, the time may never be more appropriate to book that fight.

Tyson Fury Plots His Comeback

His return to the ring may well become one of the worst-kept secrets

Fury himself set tongues wagging when he posted a video on social media recently of himself in a boxing club, alongside a caption which read: “Just in the gym, happened to bump into somebody you might know.” That somebody was his coach Javan SugarHill Steward.

“You know what’s coming,” Fury said.

Now, his manager Spencer Brown has dropped a massive hint that his gym visit wasn’t just a one-off.

Speaking to iFL, who asked about Fury returning to boxing, Brown said: “He has bought a new pair of boxing boots, so what does that tell you?”

Brown continued: “I was with him the other day up in Scotland, we had a great time, he was happy, he had a couple of Guinnesses, and he does look in good nick.”

“But he has bought himself a new pair of boxing boots and some new boxing shorts. You will know soon enough, won’t you?”

During an interview with The Stomping Ground, Usyk — believed to only have two or three fights left in the sport — suggested Fury is not retired, and that he’ll “continue training, continue boxing, because he’s a great man.”

Responding to Usyk’s comments, Fury claimed that he beat Usyk twice but was robbed by the judges. “The world knows the truth,” he said. “Any time any place [for a trilogy].”

The only way Fury, or indeed Joshua, may get a trilogy bout against Usyk is by fighting one another. Whoever wins, may well be worth a final shot at heavyweight boxing’s final boss.
