£23m star now ‘getting European interest’ at the Emirates

Arsenal defender Gabriel is attracting attention from Juventus, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Gabriel only made the £23m switch from Lille less than two years ago, but his fine form for the Gunners has caught the attention of the Old Lady, who need central defenders.

What’s the latest news involving Gabriel?

Arsenal may have fallen away towards the end of last season, which ultimately cost them a place in the Champions League, but Gabriel was one of their most consistent performers.

His form saw him rewarded with his maiden call-up to the Brazil squad, although he’s still waiting to win his first cap for his country.

Gabriel formed an impressive partnership at the club alongside Ben White at the heart of Arsenal’s defence, with only the top four clubs keeping more clean sheets than Mikel Arteta’s side.

But Gabriel’s form could land him a move away from the Emirates Stadium, with Jones stating that Juventus, who could lose Matthijs de Ligt and have already seen Giorgio Chiellini sign for LAFC, keen on his services.

What did Jones say about Gabriel?

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Juventus are interested in Arsenal’s Gabriel as they begin to think about life after De Ligt.

“There’s no doubt that [Kalidou] Koulibaly is the man they have most firmly in their sights but obviously they have to have other candidates too and there is a really strong feeling about the credentials of Gabriel. It would be the last thing Arsenal need right now, as they begin to plan their new season.”

Should Arsenal cash in on Gabriel?

Arsenal look on course for a big summer, having already spent upwards of £85m, but Gabriel is a player they shouldn’t even consider selling.

The Gunners have lacked top quality centre-backs in recent seasons and look to have finally found one in the 24-year-old, who’s already racked up 70 appearances in his two years in north London.

Not only is Gabriel one of the most prolific goalscoring defenders in the Premier League, having scored seven goals in 58 top-flight outings, but some of his defensive numbers are amongst the best in the Arsenal squad.

Last season, he made 1.4 tackles and 3.1 clearances every appearance, while he had the best passing success rate in the squad, from players that started more than 10 games, and completed more successful passes to his teammates than anyone else at the club per match (58.2).
