Xavi Hernandez took over Barcelona as manager in November 2021, replacing Ronald Koeman.
When he first arrived at Camp Nou, the Catalans were languishing in ninth position. But the Spaniard soon inspired an upturn in form and ultimately guided them to a second-place finish.
The Blaugrana saw huge improvement last season as they strolled to the La Liga title, with 10 points clear of arch-rivals Real Madrid.
They also ended up winning the Spanish Super Cup as Xavi bagged two trophies in his first full season as Barca boss.
The 43-year-old’s current contract at Camp Nou will expire next year but the club are keen to retain his services beyond that period.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi has agreed to sign a new contract that will keep him at Barcelona until 2025. The club are likely to make an announcement as early as next week.
It is also said the 43-year-old will be rewarded with a significant salary increase through the new contract.
The latest news will be music to the ears of fans who want the Spaniard to be their manager for the long-term.
The Catalans hadn’t lifted the league trophy since 2019 but he brilliantly ended their title drought last season.
Xavi will aim to defend their league crown in 2023-24 but he will likely face a tough challenge from Real, who have won all their four matches in the new campaign.
On the other hand, Barcelona suffered a disappointing goalless draw at Getafe but bounced back strongly to win their subsequent three games.
