Wolverhampton Wanderers reject Leicester City bid for Conor Coady

Leicester City have had a bid for centre-back Conor Coady rejected by Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to The Athletic.

For many years, Coady was an important figure at Molineux. He first joined the club back in 2015, arriving from Huddersfield Town for an estimated fee of £2 million.

The former Liverpool man was made club captain in 2018, following his side’s promotion back to the Premier League. In the next four seasons, he missed just one league game, qualifying for Europe once during that time.

Meanwhile, Coady’s performances were enough to earn him his first senior international cap, making his debut in the Nations League against Denmark in August 2020. He currently has ten caps for England, and was included in Gareth Southgate’s squads for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

However, the 30-year-old has since fallen out of favour with the Midlands outfit. He spent last season on loan at Everton, where he helped the Toffees narrowly avoid relegation.

Coady is believed to be keen on a move away from Molineux in pursuit of regular game time. The Athletic writes that Leicester City have had a bid turned down by Wolves for the centre-back, with an improved offer expected.

The Foxes enter the new campaign off the back of relegation from the Premier League. They will be aiming for an instant return to the top-flight under new manager Enzo Maresca.

A new central defender will be near the top of their wish list in the transfer window. Caglar Soyuncu and Daniel Amartey will depart when their contracts expire at the end of the month, while a new deal for Jonny Evans is still yet to be agreed.

Also leaving are Youri Tielemans, Tete, Ryan Bertrand, Nampalys Mendy, and Ayoze Perez. James Maddison is likely to be sold, with Tottenham Hotspur leading the race for his signature.
