Speaking to Wolfsburger Nachrichten, Wolfsburg managing director Jörg Schmadtke has stated that players will leave before the September 1 deadline as their current squad is too big.
“Our squad is still too big. The goal is to reduce the number of players,” said Schmadtke.
Speaking about Aster Vranckx (19), Schmadtke said: “I can understand that he is dissatisfied. Games are important for development, especially for a young player like him.” Wolfsburg are actively looking to sell Vranckx, who has no future at the club and is allowed to leave for a reported €6m – the Belgian has interest from Everton and Lille, among others.
Jérôme Roussillon (29) is another player who is allowed to depart. “If you’re not in the squad for four games in a row, that’s a clear sign,” added Schmadtke.
Max Kruse (33) has played just 90 minutes across three games and is another player unsatisfied with his role within the squad, but the German is not a candidate for sale the summer. “I can understand that Max is not satisfied at the moment, but the coach makes the decisions,” said Schmadtke.
