Manchester City appear to be attempting to hijack Bayern Munich’s move for Florian Wirtz.
Recent reports have suggested that the 22-year-old has reached an agreement in principle with Bayern, but this doesn’t appear to have deterred City – in fact, quite the opposite.
According to both Kicker and Bild, Manchester City are in active talks with Wirtz and are doing everything they can to persuade him to join them instead.
Bild even claims that Wirtz and his parents were seen at the airport on Tuesday, heading to Manchester for discussions. They reportedly returned later that evening.
City could have an advantage, given that Bayer Leverkusen are likely more inclined to sell Wirtz abroad rather than to a direct Bundesliga rival.
Ultimately, though, the key factor will be Wirtz’s decision – and as of now, it seems no final choice has been made.
