Real Betis are seriously considering signing French midfielder Houssem Aouar from Ligue 1 side Lyon.
However, as per Marca, the major obstacles in the deal are the financial demands. Despite smooth progress in conversations between Betis and Aouar, Los Verdiblancos are unable to match Lyon’s asking price of €15-20million outright.
Lyon’s reported interest in Betis midfielder William Carvalho could quicken the terms of the Aouar deal, however, the French side are unwilling to match Turkish side Galatasaray’s contract offer to the Portuguese.
The fact that Carvalho’s contract runs out in the summer of 2023 (like Aouar’s) does not give Betis much of a free rein in the swap negotiation. Reportedly, a fee of €13million and Carvalho has been proposed for Houssem Aouar’s transfer.
William Carvalho experienced a renaissance last season, growing into a key midfielder in Manuel Pellegrini’s Copa del Rey-winning side. Aouar, on the other hand, has suffered from regressing form, as Lyon stumbled to an eighth place finish in Ligue 1.
