Former Valencia head coach Marcelino García Toral has officially left Ligue 1 side Marseille, following threats against him and former Valencia sporting director Pablo Longoria.
As reported by Golsmedia, the Asturian coach learned on Monday night of the threats made to Longoria by various ultras at the club, who were calling for his and Marcelino’s imminent departure as they did not agree with the project or the team’s style of play, and yesterday he informed his staff that he could not continue under the current circumstances.
Throughout Tuesday, the coach’s lawyers prepared the paperwork and today (Wednesday), Marseille announced the departure of the Spanish coach, who after receiving death threats, and seeing how his main supporter, Longoria, president of the club, had also received threats, felt the need to leave a club where he felt he could no longer contribute.
Marseille sit fourth in the Ligue 1 table, just two points behind league leaders AS Monaco.
