West Ham United will ‘turn up their search’ for a new centre-back imminently following the development with Craig Dawson, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
Dawson is expected to complete a switch to Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, meaning the Hammers will need to bring in a replacement before the end of the month.
West Ham United transfer news – centre-back
The Daily Mail have reported that West Ham have agreed to sell the 32-year-old to Wolves in a £3.3 million deal as he is eager to move back to the Midlands for family reasons.
However, the capital club will not sanction Dawson’s sale until next week due to their potential pivotal clash against relegation rivals Everton this weekend.
Prior to West Ham’s recent trip to Molineux, the 6 foot 2 ace had started six consecutive top-flight fixtures, showcasing the important role he still has in David Moyes’ first-team squad.

But it seems as though Dawson’s exit is now inevitable, and the search for his successor will gather pace over the coming days.
Moyes has already addressed his faltering forward line in the shape of former Burnley, Liverpool and Southampton striker Danny Ings, and now reinforcements should arrive at the opposite end of the pitch.
What has Jones said about West Ham?
Jones has disclosed that West Ham’s hierarchy believe ‘another body will need to be brought in’ for the second half of the season once Dawson departs.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Expect West Ham to turn up their search for a centre-back as the striker deals near completion.
“Craig Dawson is going to get the green light to join Wolves, and they feel another body will need to be brought in given the tough task ahead of them in the second half of the season.”
Who could West Ham sign?
TalkSPORT have claimed that Manchester United’s Harry Maguire is on West Ham’s transfer wish list, but that he’s unlikely to leave Old Trafford this January.
The England international has slipped down the Red Devils’ pecking order this season under the tutelage of manager Erik ten Hag, starting just four Premier League games.
Maguire still has two and a half years remaining on his £200,000-per-week contract, though, meaning any deal for him is likely to be an expensive one.
Whether Maguire is a realistic option or not remains to be seen, but West Ham certainly appear to be in the market for a central defender this winter.
