West Ham United‘s aim to sign Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri does not have much chance of ‘working out’, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Hammers have long been linked with bringing the forward to the London Stadium, with David Moyes a keen admirer, but the move is unlikely to transpire and they may have to turn their attentions elsewhere.
West Ham transfer news – Youssef En-Nesyri
West Ham have been involved in a long-running transfer saga trying to bring En-Nesyri to east London, with Spanish sources, via Sport Witness, reporting back in September that Sevilla had rejected a £34m in the summer transfer window, which they later ended up regretting.
That offer came after a bid worth an initial £21.5m was also rebuffed by the Spanish club in January 2021, as per David Ornstein, highlighting just how far back the Hammers’ interest in the Moroccan stretches.
Moyes recently wrote a column for the Times, in which he labelled his transfer target as being an ‘incredible good runner’, while also praising him for providing his national side with an outlet at the World Cup, so it remains apparent that he is still thought of in high esteem at the London Stadium.
What has Jones said about En-Nesyri?
While it may appear that Moyes’ long-standing appreciation of En-Nesyri could be a factor in the Hammers finally managing to get a deal on the line, Jones thinks otherwise.
The journalist states that a move should have already happened if it was ever going to, warning West Ham fans not to expect him to arrive in January.
In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “They’ve been linked with him for so long, I feel like it probably would’ve happened by now if it was going to, but he’s obviously someone they still like.
“I just can’t see it working out in January, I don’t see this as being one that goes through.“
How has En-Nesyri performed at the World Cup?
The 6 foot 2 marksman was an absolutely essential part of a Morocco team that surpassed all expectations in Qatar, reaching the semi-final before a heartbreaking exit in a 2-0 defeat to 2018 winners France.
In the quarter-final against Portugal, the 25-year-old displayed his aerial prowess, rising high to score the only goal of the game, helping his team to become the first African team to reach the last four at a World Cup.
Not only that, but the titan also broke new ground by scoring the highest ever headed goal in the history of the tournament, nodding home from a height of 2.78m, as per Goal.
The £46k-a-week earner, as per Salary Sport, struck twice in Qatar, also netting against Canada to ensure that his team finished as group winners, a game in which he won four aerial duels, as per SofaScore.
This was the highest number of any player of the pitch, again highlighting the main quality that he would bring to the London Stadium.
