West Ham reject Crystal Palace approach for Ben Johnson

West Ham United have reportedly rejected Crystal Palace enquiry about signing Ben Johnson. 

The 24-year-old has been on the fringes of the squad this season, making only eight appearances across all competitions. 

It was suggested that David Moyes’ side would be willing to listen to offers for the young full-back, whose contract is set to run out in the summer. 

Palace explored whether the Hammers would consider a sale before the February 1 deadline. 

But The Athletic’s David Ornstein report their enquiry about signing Johnson has been turned down by West Ham, who are planning to offer him a new contract in the coming weeks. 

Premier League transfers spending has been very down this month due to the Financial Fair Play restrictions but with just days remaining in the window, transfer activity has picked up. 

Crystal Palace recently completed the signing of Daniel Munoz from Genk, while Blackburn Rovers youngster Adam Wharton is also set to arrive at Selhurst Park. 

The Eagles wanted to add Johnson too, but it appears the 24-year-old will stay in East London at least until the end of the season. 

The right-back is an academy product of West Ham, who made his competitive debut in February 2019 against Manchester City. 

He has never been a regular at the London Stadium and has made over 90 senior appearances for the English club.
