Werder Bremen midfielder Jens Stage is edging closer to a comeback from the foot injury that has sidelined him for the club’s first games this season.
Speaking to Bild, Werder’s managing director of professional football, Clemens Fritz, provided an update on the Dane’s progress.
“We’re increasing the workload more every day. Jens is making clear progress,” Fritz said.
“The decisive factor is how he responds to it.”
If there are no setbacks, Stage looks set to make his return in Werder’s next game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on September 14.
“We’re working towards him being available in Gladbach and are optimistic,” Fritz added.
Stage has been a regular starter for Werder Bremen since joining from FC Copenhagen in 2022.
Last season, he scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances.
