Rudi Völler has confirmed that he’s planning to step down as Germany sporting director following the World Cup in 2026.
“For me, of course, 2026 is the end. I actually wanted to stop now,” Völler said in an interview with Bild.
The former Leverkusen boss postponed his departure until 2026 to send a signal to Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.
“By extending my contract, I also wanted to set an example for Julian,” said Völler.
Völler took over as sporting director in the beginning of 2023.
