Villarreal have made contact with Chelsea defender Axel Disasi about signing him this summer, according to Foot Mercato.
The French international’s future at Stamford Bridge is increasingly uncertain after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
Disasi, who joined Chelsea from Monaco for €45 million in August 2023, has fallen down the pecking order and is expected to depart this summer.
He arrived at Chelsea amid high expectations following an impressive spell at Monaco. Disasi made 44 appearances across all competitions in his debut season.
However, the arrival of new defensive signings and tactical changes under manager Enzo Maresca has reduced him to a bit-part role.
While Villa are reportedly still keen on making his move permanent, and Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation, Villarreal have now made the most concrete approach for Disasi.
Chelsea are aiming to recoup around €30m by parting ways with Disasi. The Blues would ideally prefer a permanent deal, but a loan with an obligation to buy could also suffice.
Villarreal’s search for defensive reinforcements is hardly surprising given they have just parted ways with Eric Bailey and Raul Albiol.
They finished fifth in La Liga last season and are set for a return to the Champions League, which could aid their pursuit of Disasi.
Villarreal have already completed the acquisition of Alberto Moleiro from Las Palmas, and further acquisitions are expected.
