As reported by Kicker, VfL Wolfsburg are interested in Japanese international Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart.
Ito has proven to be a solid Bundesliga defender for Stuttgart. The Swabians only spent 500k in 2021 for the defender from Japanese club Jubilo Iwata. This season, the 23-year-old has made a total of 20 appearances for Stuttgart, starting on 19 occasions.
Wolfsburg see Ito as the ideal replacement for Micky van de Ven who may leave the club this summer. Though contracted with wolves until 2025, the Dutchman can imagine a move abroad. Like van de Ven, Ito is a solid left-footed central defender and would come with plenty of Bundesliga experience.
Ito’s career at Stuttgart could also depend on where the club finish this season. Currently, the club sit 15th with only their goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone. Thanks to Schalke 04’s win on the weekend, Stuttgart are just three points away from 18th place.
