In an article appearing on Kicker Magazine’s website today, Hiete also reports that the club’s search for a new left-back now leads to the Czech Republic.
Cerny scored 15 goals and added a further 13 assists in 41 appearances for Twente across all competitions this past season. The nine-times-capped Czech international maintains an estimated market worth of €4 million in the latest transfermarkt listings. Dutch sources too report that Cerny’s move to Germany is in the final stages of being concluded. Holland’s Telegraaf newspaper speaks of a transfer fee in the €7 million range. Hiete writes that an announcement should come soon.
Cerny could potentially play alongside on of his Czech compatriots next season. Hiete claims that Wolfsburg’s active search for some additional assistance at the left-back position has led them to 22-year-old Slavia Prague fullback David Jurasek. The €3 million-valued player racked up 15 scorer points in the Czech domestic league last season and recently made his debut for the senior men’s national team.
Following the recent departures of Jerome Roussillon (Union Berlin) and Paulo Otavio (Al-Saad in Qatar), Wolfsburg will need at least one more natural left-back to serve alongside Nicolas Cozza on the roster. Micky van de Ven and Kevin Paredes can play the position, but tend to thrive more in their natural roles of center-halve and winger, respectively.
The transfer fee remains a problem. Tomas’ parent club want upwards of €13 to €15 million for the young prospect. Wolfsburg are currently in negotiations with Sporting CP for a price approximately half that number. Tomas – the scorer of seven Bundesliga goals during his 18-month-stint in Germany – is valued as a €7 million player.
