Bild reports that Manchester United made an approach for VfB Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß in the summer but he rejected them.
Before they extended the contract of head coach Erik ten Hag, United enquired about Hoeneß’s availability but the son of striker Dieter and nephew of Bayern Munich’s Uli Hoeneß politely rejected the Premier League side.
Hoeneß was said to have been flattered by the interest from United, but he instead opted to stay at the MHP Arena.
The interest is a testament to the work that Hoeneß has done since joining Stuttgart in 2023. When he took over, the club were in a relegation battle and with the help of a relegation playoff win against Hamburg, they stayed in the league.
In his next season, the club where then fighting for Champions League football and finished an unlikely second after Bayern Munich’s late slip-up. Hoeneß style has got the best out of the players and has resulted in six players being called up to the German national team while he has been in charge.
While in the Champions League this season, VfB have put in strong performances against holders Real Madrid and Sparta Prague, but the results have yet to arrive.
