Roger Schmidt introduced himself to RB Leipzig on Thursday, giving insights into his first days as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.

The 59-year-old took over the roll on 1 October, succeeding Jürgen Klopp, who became the new national team coach after the World Cup.

Together with Florian Scholz, Head of Global Soccer, Schmidt will preside over developing Red Bull’s international football network.

“Coming back [to Leipzig] was fantastic for me. I had a wonderful and special time in Salzburg back then,” Schmidt said at the internal event.

“Of course I always followed how things progressed in Leipzig and how Red Bull developed internationally.

“The years in between have perhaps given me exactly the experience I need for this task now. I’m looking forward to supporting my coaches and colleagues,” he added.

In his new role, Roger will support the clubs’ sporting directors in further developing the Red Bull playing philosophy, among other things.

He will also leverage his international network in scouting top talent and in the training and development of coaches.
