Sky Germany reports that VfB Stuttgart are in talks with former Union Berlin centre-back Timo Baumgartl over a potential transfer.
Baumgartl was reportedly at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Thursday night watching Stuttgart beat Hamburg 3-0 in the first leg of the relegation playoff.
No agreement has been reached yet, but any transfer could cost between €1-2m as Baumgartl has a contract at PSV Eindhoven until 2024.
The 27-year-old is open to rejoining Stuttgart as he is a product of the club’s academy having risen through the ranks before joining PSV in 2019 for €12m.
Baumgartl has spent the past two seasons on loan at Union. In his first season, the 27-year-old was important in helping the team qualify for the Europa League. However, in his second season, Baumgartl has struggled for playing time. At the beginning of the season, the defender was diagnosed with testicular cancer and then with the signings of Danilho Doekhi and Diogo Leite, it has made it difficult to break into the first team.
