Veteran Barcelona trio to play ‘fundamental’ roles under new boss Flick

Three headline members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona are set to be relied upon heavily by new head coach Hansi Flick.

That’s according to Relevo, who point towards the trio in question as coming in the form of Robert Lewandowski, lkay Gündoğan, and Marc-André ter Stegen.

German tactician Flick was of course unveiled as the leader of the new project in Catalunya’s capital on Wednesday afternoon.

Following the dismissal of Xavi, Joan Laporta and co. quickly identified the former Bayern Munich boss as the ideal candidate to take up the reins.

Flick, for his part, has in turn already sat down for discussions with Deco and the Camp Nou brass, regarding squad planning for next season.

And, during as much, the 59-year-old is understood to have made clear the importance of three players in his project.

As per the aforementioned Relevo, this trio is made up of Robert Lewandowski, lkay Gündoğan, and Marc-André ter Stegen.

Frontman Lewandowski enjoyed arguably the best form of his glittering career under Flick’s watch, with the German, despite Lewa’s advancing years, therefore more than eager to keep hold of the 35-year-old.

Both Gündoğan and Ter Stegen, meanwhile, were leading figures during Flick’s stint as the head coach of the German national team, with the newly-appointed Barca headmaster as a result set to lean heavily on his fellow countrymen during not only his adaption period in Spain, but across the upcoming season as a whole.
