RTL reports that former Union Berlin head coach Urs Fischer is a candidate to become the next head coach of 1.FC Köln in the summer.
Despite being within touching distance of promotion, Köln decided to sack head coach Gerhard Struber. In his place, Friedhelm Funkel will be in charge for the final two games of the season and will try to lead the team to promotion. At the weekend, Köln drew with already relegated Jahn Regensburg, and all they needed was a win.
Köln will now look for Struber’s long-term replacement,t and Fischer is said to be a candidate. The only caveat is that the Swiss will only be interested in taking charge in Müngersdorf if they are in the Bundesliga.
die Gießböcke’s final two games of the season are against 1.FC Nürnberg and Kaiserslautern, with the latter potentially being a shoot-out for promotion on the final day of the season.
