Manuel Neuer is expected to sit on the bench for Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, according to Bild.
The German tabloid reports that Jonas Urbig is set to get a rare opportunity in goal to gain match practice.
Bayern want Urbig to build some rhythm ahead of Wednesday’s DFB-Pokal tie against his former club 1. FC Köln, where Neuer is suspended.
Urbig completed an extra training session on Thursday, using a special pair of glasses designed to restrict his field of vision.
The 22-year-old has featured just once this season, in August’s 3-2 DFB-Pokal win over Wehen Wiesbaden.
Trusted as Neuer’s long-term successor at the Allianz Arena, Urbig was originally scheduled to make his second appearance earlier this season, but a muscle fiber tear in September kept him out for about two weeks.
